BOTOX Dos and Don'ts

Before BOTOX® Treatment

  • Your skin will be cleaned with rubbing alcohol or an antiseptic before your treatment, so feel free to show up to your appointment without makeup.

  • For 3-5 days before treatment, avoid blood thinners like NSAIDs (including Advil, aspirin, and Aleve) and fish oils. If you need to take an over-the-counter pain reliever, take Tylenol instead.

  • To further lower your risk of bruising, avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to the procedure.

  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.

  • On the day of treatment, it’s a good idea to eat a healthy breakfast. You want your body to be operating at 100% before treatment.

After BOTOX® Treatment

  • Avoid any physical pressure, laying down on your face for the first few hours.

  • Avoid rubbing on the area of injection for a few days. You don’t need to avoid making any facial expressions, however; frowning, smiling, and other facial expressions can help encourage your Botox results to show up sooner!

  • Wait 24 hours to work out or exert yourself after Botox.

  • Avoid UV exposure and activities that involve excessive heat.

  • Avoid alcohol & continue to avoid blood thinners for 24 hours after your treatment.

In The Weeks Ahead

Maximum benefit is reached in 2 weeks. Follow-up appt required to monitor progress.

After about 3 to 6 months, the effects of Botox start to wear off and you will start to see a gradual return of movement. If you want the fresh and smooth look to return, you will have to repeat the injections. Most people get injections every 3 to 4 months.
