BOTOX Dos and Don'ts
Before BOTOX® Treatment
Your skin will be cleaned with rubbing alcohol or an antiseptic before your treatment, so feel free to show up to your appointment without makeup.
For 3-5 days before treatment, avoid blood thinners like NSAIDs (including Advil, aspirin, and Aleve) and fish oils. If you need to take an over-the-counter pain reliever, take Tylenol instead.
To further lower your risk of bruising, avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to the procedure.
Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.
On the day of treatment, it’s a good idea to eat a healthy breakfast. You want your body to be operating at 100% before treatment.
After BOTOX® Treatment
Avoid any physical pressure, laying down on your face for the first few hours.
Avoid rubbing on the area of injection for a few days. You don’t need to avoid making any facial expressions, however; frowning, smiling, and other facial expressions can help encourage your Botox results to show up sooner!
Wait 24 hours to work out or exert yourself after Botox.
Avoid UV exposure and activities that involve excessive heat.
Avoid alcohol & continue to avoid blood thinners for 24 hours after your treatment.
In The Weeks Ahead
Maximum benefit is reached in 2 weeks. Follow-up appt required to monitor progress.
After about 3 to 6 months, the effects of Botox start to wear off and you will start to see a gradual return of movement. If you want the fresh and smooth look to return, you will have to repeat the injections. Most people get injections every 3 to 4 months.
